General Info

Nepal - the land of snow giants, temples and monasteries, characterised by grandiose mountain massifs.

Around 30 million people from over 40 different ethnic groups with their own languages and cultures populate this small country. Situated between the two Asian superpowers India and China (Tibet), Nepal is a country of diversity,

where the combination of opposites in nature and tradition is commonplace. Jungle and high mountain ridges, Buddhism, Hinduism and ancient nature religions can all be found in this unique kingdom.

Since its opening in the 1950s, the mountain region in Nepal has acted like a magnet for mountaineers, adventurers and travellers - and with good reason. They all may well be attracted primarily by the desire to see the world's highest mountain with their own eyes. Mount Everest, however, is only one of countless spectacular peaks in the Himalayan Mountains. The El Dorado for nature lovers, culture junkies, sportsmen and not to forget - for B I K E R.

Entry requirements

You can get your visa at the Nepalese Embassy and at one of the Honorary Consulates or ONLINE BY ARRIVAL. (You can request application forms directly from us.) Before entering the country, register ONLINE, go to the counter, pay visa fees in euros, stamp and you're done! No matter how, you need a passport valid for at least 6 months and a passport photo. The visa fees depend on the length of your stay and the number of entries. A stay of up to 15 days - without re-entry - currently costs € 35.

You will also need an international driving licence, which you can get - without any problems - at your local road traffic office.

Nutrition & Health

As in all of Asia, do not drink unboiled water in Nepal! It is best to drink mineral water or soft drinks such as Coca Cola. But beer is also more than edible! ;-)

Some vaccinations are recommended. However, these are not compulsory. For more detailed information, please contact your nearest tropical institute. We recommend that you brush up on tetanus and polio if necessary. A hepatitis A vaccination is also advisable. Malaria prophylaxis is recommended for southern Nepal. However, the best protection is not to be bitten by mosquitoes in the first place. As the anti-malarial drugs are extremely harmful and do not protect against malaria, we recommend taking vitamin B tablets (one daily in the morning and one in the evening) in combination with Autan. By taking vitamin B, the body emits a smell that mosquitoes cannot stand (by the way, it is hardly noticeable to humans). Start taking it already one week before the trip. Of course, we cannot guarantee this method, but it has always worked for us.

When it comes to food, the rule is "eat the food typical of the country"! Pure enjoyment - but you should hold back on meat dishes, as the local preparation of meat takes a lot of getting used to.

The switch from Western to Asian cuisine is unavoidable, although we will also enjoy simple vegetarian dishes and specialities from the regions we visit on several occasions during the tours. Breakfast and dinner are always included in the tour price and are taken together. Unfortunately, a hearty breakfast is not always possible. Especially when staying overnight in tents! Nevertheless, we will always try to provide varied cuisine, especially local specialities. In general, little meat is eaten in Nepal, if at all, then mostly chicken, but more vegetables, pulses and rice. Nepalese cuisine is well-seasoned, not too spicy and generally well-tolerated.

During the day there will always be the opportunity for small refreshments and snacks, mostly in the simple restaurants of the locals or tea shops along the way.

Country & People

Nepal is one of the poorest countries in the world. Occasional power cuts, water shortages or insufficient petrol supply are part of everyday life in an underdeveloped country. Every participant should bring along tolerance and understanding for a completely different culture.

A melting pot of cultures and peoples, composed of more than 101 ethnic groups, we find influences from Indian-Arabic, Tibetan-Burmese and Mongolian. Almost every group has its own language and religion. The religions in particular evolved over time into the two main religions - Hinduism and Buddhism. Many Nepalis practise both. It is not uncommon for one and the same temple to be used and for festivals to be celebrated together. Incidentally, Nepalis celebrate very often (the country with the most public holidays - worldwide!). One thing they all have in common is that they are a very happy people!

Traffic

The adventure begins here. Left-hand traffic - and the most important thing is the horn!

Everything else is just a minor matter. The traffic is "regulated" by honking. Deafening - but it works!

You become addicted to it. Afterwards, it is very difficult to "submit" to the western traffic rules again.

in dem die Verbindung von Gegensätzlichem in Natur und Tradition alltäglich ist. Dschungel und Hochgebirgskämme, Buddhismus, Hinduismus und alte Naturreligionen finden sich in diesem einzigartigen Königreich wieder.

Die Gebirgsregion in Nepal wirkt seit ihrer Öffnung in den 50er Jahren wie ein Magnet auf Bergsteiger, Abenteurer und Reisende – und dies mit gutem Grund. Sie alle mögen wohl vornehmlich durch den Wunsch, den höchsten Berg der Welt mit ihren eigenen Augen zu sehen, angezogen werden. Der Mount Everest ist jedoch nur einer von unzähligen spektakulären Gipfeln im Himalaya Gebirge. Das El Dorado für Naturliebhaber, Kulturjunkies, Sportler und nicht zu vergessen - für B I K E R.

Einreisebestimmungen

Du bekommst Dein Visa bei der nepalesischen Botschaft sowie bei einem der Honorakonsulate oder ONLINE BY ARRIVAL. (Antragsformulare kannst Du direkt bei uns anfordern.) Vor der Einreise ONLINE registrieren , Schalter aufsuchen , Visagebühren in Euro bezahlen , Stempel und fertig! Egal wie, Du benötigst dazu einen mindestens noch für 6 Monate gültigen Reisepass sowie ein Passbild. Die Visa - Gebühren richten sich nach der Länge des Aufenthaltes und Anzahl der Einreisen.Aufenthalt bis 15 Tage - ohne Wiedereinreise - kostet derzeit € 35,-.

Zudem benötigt Ihr einen internationalen Führerschein - den bekommt Ihr - ohne Probleme - bei Eurem Straßenverkehrsamt.

Ernährung & Gesundheit

Wie für ganz Asien gilt auch in Nepal: kein ungekochtes Wasser trinken! Am besten versorgt man sich mit Mineralwasser oder Softdrinks wie z.B. Coca Cola. Aber auch das Bier ist mehr als genießbar! ;-)

Es werden einige Schutzimpfungen empfohlen. Diese sind jedoch nicht Pflicht. Für ausführliche Informationen wendest Du Dich am besten an das nächstgelegene Tropeninstitut. Wir empfehlen Tetanus und Polio, soweit notwendig, aufzufrischen. Sinnvoll ist auch eine Hepatitis A Impfung. Für den Süden Nepals wird eine Malaria-Prophylaxe empfohlen. Der beste Schutz ist aber erst gar nicht von den Mücken gestochen zu werden. Da die Malaria-Mittel ausgesprochen gesundheitsschädlich sind und nur vor Malaria nicht schützen, empfehlen wir, die Einnahme von Vitamin B Tabletten (täglich morgens und abends eine) in Verbindung mit Autan. Durch die Einahme von Vitamin B dünstet der Körper einen Geruch aus, den die Mücken nicht ertragen können (für den Menschen übrigens kaum wahrnehmbar). Beginn bereits eine Woche vor der Reise mit der Einnahme. Natürlich können wir keine Garantie für diese Methode übernehmen aber bei uns hat es immer funktioniert.

Beim Essen gilt „esst landestypisch“! Genuss pur - allerdings sollte man sich bei Fleischgerichte zurückhalten, da die hiesige Fleischzubereitung doch sehr gewöhnungsbedürftig ist.

Die Umstellung von westlicher auf asiatische Küche ist unumgänglich, wobei wir während der Touren des öfteren auch einfache vegetarische Speisen und Spezialitäten der bereisten Regionen geniessen werden. Frühstück und Abendessen sind immer im Reisepreis enthalten und werden gemeinsam eingenommen. Ein reichhaltiges Frühstück ist dabei leider nicht immer möglich. Speziell bei den Zeltübernachtungen! Wir werden uns dennoch stets um eine abwechslungsreiche Küche bemühen, wobei vor allem lokale Spezialitäten nicht zu kurz kommen werden. Allgemein wird in Nepal wenig Fleisch, wenn überhaupt, dann meist Hühnerfleisch, dafür aber mehr Gemüse, Hülsenfrüchte und Reis gegessen. Die nepalesische Küche ist gut gewürzt, nicht zu scharf und allgemein gutverträglich.

Tagsüber wird es immer die Gelegenheit für kleine Erfrischungen und Zwischenmahlzeiten geben, meist in den einfachen Restaurants der Einheimischen oder Tea Shops am Wegesrand.

Land & Leute

Nepal ist eins der ärmsten Länder der Welt. Gelegentlicher Stromausfall, Wassermangel oder auch unzureichende Benzinversorgung sind Teil des Alltags in einem unterentwickeltem Land. Toleranz und Verständnis für eine ganz andere Kultur sollte jeder Teilnehmer mitbringen.

Ein Schmelztiegel der Kulturen und Völker, zusammengesetzt aus über 101 ethnischen Volksgruppen finden wir Einflüsse aus dem Indisch-Arabischen, Tibet-Burmesischen und dem Mongolischen. Fast jede hat Gruppe hat Ihre eigne Sprache und Religion. Vor allem die Religionen entwickelten sich im Laufe der Zeit zu den zwei Hauptreligionen - Hinduismus und Buddhismus. Viele Nepali praktizieren beide. Es kommt nicht selten vor, das ein und die selbe Tempelanlagen benutzt und auch die Feste gemeinsam gefeiert werden. Im übrigen feiern die Nepali sehr häufig (das Land mit den meisten Feiertagen - weltweit!). Eins ist Ihnen nämlich allen gemein, Sie sind ein ausgesprochenes fröhliches Volk!

Verkehr

Bereits hier beginnt das Abenteuer. Linksverkehr - und das Wichtigste ist die Hupe!

Alles andere ist nur Nebensache. Durch Hupen wird der Verkehr „geregelt“. Ohrenbetäubend - aber es funktioniert!

Man wird süchtig danach. Nachher hat man große Schwierigkeiten sich dem westlichen Verkehrsregeln wieder zu „unterwerfen“.
